How to Receive Bluetooth on Any Electronic Drum Kit: Step-by-Step Explanation

Nowadays, many electronic drum sets are equipped with Bluetooth, such as the Alesis Nitro Max. Also most kits of Roland, all kits from GEWA and some kits of Millenium have Bluetooth.

In this blog I explain how you can receive Bluetooth on any electronic drum kit in a cheap way.

Please note: This concerns playing music from your smartphone via Bluetooth to the module. Connecting a wireless Bluetooth headphone to the module is not possible.

Why would you want to receive Bluetooth on your electronic drum kit?

Almost all electronic drum sets have an AUX input that allows you to play music. Unfortunately, wired connections are not always practical. Cables are sometimes limited in length and get in the way while drumming. In addition, many modern devices, such as smartphones, no longer even have an AUX connection.

With the UGREEN Bluetooth 5.3 Receiver you don't have to worry about cables anymore. With this adapter you can easily stream music via Bluetooth, from your phone, tablet or laptop.

What is the UGREEN Bluetooth 5.3 Receiver?

The UGREEN Bluetooth 5.3 Receiver is a compact adapter that can stream Bluetooth music to devices that do not originally have Bluetooth. These are for example older speakers, car radios, but for electronic drum sets it also works!

Key Features of the UGREEN Bluetooth 5.3 Receiver:

  • Bluetooth 5.3: Super-fast connection with good performance and low latency.
  • 3.5mm AUX output: Compatible with most drum sets.
  • Plug and play: Just plug and play; installs in 10 seconds.
  • Long battery life: Up to 15 hours of playback on a single charge.
  • Compact design: Small enough to take anywhere.

How does it work? (Step by step explanation)

Using the UGREEN Bluetooth 5.3 Receiver is super easy. It works like this:

1. Find the AUX input on your drum kit

Most electronic drum kits have an AUX input (3.5mm) or other audio input. Check where this input is located (usually on the back of the module or on the side).

2. Connect the UGREEN Bluetooth Receiver

Plug the receiver into the AUX input of your drum kit. Mine came with a charged battery.

3. Put the receiver into pairing mode

Press the large round button on the UGREEN Receiver to put it into pairing mode. A blue light will start blinking, indicating that it is ready to connect.

4. Connect your device

Open the Bluetooth settings on your smartphone, tablet or laptop. Find the UGREEN in the list of available devices and connect. Your phone will be connected in a few seconds.

5. Play your favorite music

Start a song via Spotify or YouTube. The sound is streamed wirelessly to your drum kit, so you can play along without being tied down by cables.

6. Adjust the volume

You can adjust the volume of the music via your phone. The volume knob on the module controls the volume of the drums. Experiment with this to find a good balance.

Conclusion

The UGREEN Bluetooth 5.3 Receiver is a simple (and affordable) way to receive Bluetooth on the module, also for older electronic drum sets. What I found especially handy was that you can put your smartphone anywhere without an extra cable hanging in the way.
