In this research I chose an electronic drum kit that is for sale in all five stores and then looked up what the prices were in the store at that time. Discounts and offers were not included.
As you can see in the table above, Gear4Music is the most expensive store in the field of electronic drums. Kytary comes out on top of the test with no less than 7 electronic drum sets that turned out to be the cheapest in the test. For a cheap electronic drum set, you are best off there.
- Kytary
- Bax Music
- Music Store
- Thomann
- Gear4Music
Below you will find the range of electronic drums per music store:
Outliers
There are a few outliers in the overview. For example, take a look at the Roland TD-07DMK, which costs around €750 at most stores, but is offered at Kytary for €670 (!).
The Roland TD-27KV2 also stands out: it costs €3354 at Gear4Music and €2874 at Kytary. That is a whopping €480 cheaper .
The Dutch company Bax Music also comes out well in the test a number of times, namely with the Alesis Nitro Max , Alesis Crimson II SE and the Alesis Strata Prime .
The German Thomann and Music Store both remain somewhat in the middle in terms of prices. You can probably certainly find a cheap electronic drum set here, but they do not come out as the cheapest in the test.
Where to Buy Cheap Electronic Drum Kit?
If you are looking for a cheap electronic drum kit , Kytary is probably the store where you will get the best deal.
The answer to the question why Kytary is the cheapest music store is not immediately explained. Kytary is a Czech company that mainly operates in Eastern Europe. One explanation could be that wages are lower here, which allows the company to offer its products more cheaply.
Whether you buy a Roland TD-27KV2 from Thomann or Kytary, the kit will be the same. Please note that shipping costs and consumer conditions may differ per webshop.
Helpful Tips
There are also other options for getting a cheap electronic drum kit, which I will describe below.
Buy Electronic Drum Kit Via B-Stock
Many web shops offer their products in the so-called B-Stock . These are products that have been returned by the consumer, checked by the web shop and then sold again for a lower rate.
Don't worry: the products are still as new and contain at most minor signs of use. In most cases, you also have a guarantee on your product.
Second hand electronic drum kit
Another option is to buy a second-hand electronic drum kit . For Dutch people, Marktplaats is a suitable platform, but you can also search via Facebook Marketplace or other platforms.
Another tip is to look at Reverb.com, a website where you can buy and sell used musical instruments. Reverb offers thousands of products from all over the world for many times cheaper than the new price.
