Perhaps you recognize this: your toddler or child wants to burn off some energy and is constantly tapping and drumming on everything. How much fun would it be if they could let loose on a real drum set, one that's also specially designed for children?
I usually only review electronic drums , but since I sometimes get questions about children's drum sets (and I have two little boys myself), I thought it would be fun to test the Millenium Youngster Drum Set. I received the kit within two days, thanks to Thomann!
In this review, I examine the Millenium Youngster Drum Set and discuss its pros and cons.

Pros and cons of the Millenium Youngster Drum Set
Pros
- Colorful and modern design that fits into any child's room
- Cymbals with a relatively soft sound (LowNoiz)
- Sturdy material
- Including sticks and drum stool
- Easy to assemble
Cons
- Much louder than an electronic drum kit (but quieter than an adult drum kit)
- Drum kit contains only 1 tom
- Cymbal sound is not great
What immediately struck me when I set up the Millenium Youngster, something I often notice with Millenium drums, is the sturdiness of the material . I'm always amazed by the price-to-quality ratio of this brand.
Another positive aspect of this drum kit is its relatively small size , making it easy to place in the corner of a child's room. It's also easy to assemble and disassemble, so you can always put it aside when not in use.
Then there's the sound of the Millenium Youngster. The snare, tom, and bass drum sound are impeccable. In fact, I think the snare drum sounds great for a children's drum kit. However, I'm less enthusiastic about the hi-hat and crash. The sound is tinny, but at the same time, it's less disruptive to the neighbors thanks to the LowNoiz profile.
Unfortunately, the kit only includes one tom. That would be too little for an adult, but it's perfect for small children.

Snare, toms and cymbals

The Millenium Youngster features three drums: a kick drum, a snare drum, and a tom drum. The drums are sturdily built and large enough for a child to learn to play. They're also tunable, allowing you to easily adjust the pitch.
The snare and tom are easily adjustable in height, so you can always determine the desired position.

The snare drum sounds surprisingly good and sounds a lot like a regular snare drum you'd expect from a full-fledged drum kit. Of course, its size is adapted for children.
Cymbals

The cymbals (hi-hat and crash) are good, but can't compare to the sound of a professional crash or ride. For children, the cymbals are good enough to learn drumming and work on coordination. The cymbals can withstand hard hits without breaking.

Thanks to the LowNoiz profile of the cymbals, they will produce less noise than regular cymbals.
💡 Tip: The tapping of the sticks on the rubber pads creates quite a bit of noise. To solve this, you can consider special silent drumsticks. You can read more about it in this blog: Adoro SSE Silent E-Sticks Review .
Overall playing feel

Since the Millenium Youngster is specifically designed for children, and I'm an adult myself, I can't comment on the actual playability of the kit. It's far too small and low for an adult, but perfect for small children.
High quality material
What I can comment on is the quality of the materials, and in my opinion, it's very good. Upon unpacking the box, you immediately notice that the hardware (snare stand, cymbal stand, foot pedal) feels sturdy and is definitely not budget-quality.
This drum kit may be low priced, but the quality suggests that the drum kit is more expensive.
Good distance between the toms and cymbals
The distance between the pads is a bit small for adults, but just right for children. Because everything is close together , you're less likely to miss, and practicing fills is easier.
Assembling the drum kit

The Millenium Youngster comes in one box, despite being made up of multiple parts.
Assembling the drum kit is very easy and took me only 20 minutes. All in all (tightening screws, positioning the drum kit, tuning the toms), you can count on about half an hour.
What's in the box?
The Millenium Youngster comes ready to play. What's in the box:
- 16″ x 12″ Bass drum
- 8″ x 5″ Tom
- 10″ x 4″ Snare drum
- Snare stand
- Hi-hat position
- Foot pedal
- Drum stool
- Drum sticks
- Hearing protection headphones (only with the value bundle)
- Colored drumsticks (only with the value bundle)
As you can see, the drum kit comes with everything you need. All you need is a nice drum mat , and you're ready to go!
Available in 4 colours
The Millenium Youngster is available in four colors: Azure (blue), Green, Pink, and Silver. How cool is that?!

What alternatives are there?
If the Millenium Youngster isn't quite your cup of tea, there are a few alternatives with similar specs to consider:
Millenium Focus Junior Drum Set

The Millenium Focus Junior is an acoustic children's drum kit designed for those who want a little something extra. The toms are larger, two extra toms have been added, and the hardware is more professional.
The Focus Junior is a little higher in price, but still very affordable.
Millenium Rookie

There are several reasons to choose an electronic drum kit, but the most popular is the low noise level. The Millenium Rookie is an electronic drum kit specifically designed for children and easily adjustable in height.
This kit also features mesh heads, which provides even less noise pollution while still playing realistically.
Conclusion

The Millenium Youngster Drum Set is the most affordable option if you're looking to give a young drummer a great drum gift. For just €111 , you get a complete drum set that's also solidly built and sounds great.
Aside from the fact that an extra tom would have been nice and the cymbals don't sound great, this kit does everything it's supposed to. It's easy to set up, stays stable while playing, and can withstand a few knocks.
All in all, I highly recommend the Millenium Youngster, like many Millenium products (though not all). With its excellent value for money, this drum kit is the perfect way to start your drumming career.
