Roland TD-02KV

The Roland TD-02KV is a sturdy and compact electronic drum kit for beginners. This kit is designed for beginners and very suitable to start drumming .

The Roland TD-02KV is an electronic drum kit for beginners that has the basic functionalities that a starting drummer needs.

The hihat and kick drum are both trigger pedals , meaning the hihat doesn't open and close and the bass drum doesn't kick anything. The Roland TD-02KV cymbals have a choke function (muting when grabbed).

As you can see the kit is not fully equipped with mesh heads, but only the snare . Since the snare is usually the most used drum, this already makes a huge difference in playing comfort compared to the TD-02K which does not have mesh heads.

The rest of the drums are made of rubber and therefore feel a little less realistic and simpler, but they transmit the sound well.

The Roland TD-02KV module is user-friendly and simple, without complicated functions. The basics are possible: turn on the metronome, adjust the volume and easily switch between different kits. Composing your own kits is not possible with this kit.

Does the Roland TD-02KV have Bluetooth ? Yes and no. This is not built into the module as standard, but when purchasing the Boss BT Dual, this option is available. Plug it into the back of the module and you will immediately receive your favorite music wirelessly.

The kit is available at the time of writing for around 419 euros .

Yamaha DTX-402K

Yamaha's popular DTX series extends all the way to the high-end Yamaha DTX10K-X , where all kits from this brand are: all Yamaha kits are super sturdy and solid. The DTX-402K is the most budget-friendly option in this series.

What makes the Yamaha DTX-402K worth considering? First of all, the kit has special KU-100 Silent Kick Pedals , which make much less noise than other hi-hat pedals. The 10 coaching programs are also a nice bonus, so you can work on your timing even better.

The coaching programs, but also the recording function , make the kit very suitable for learning to play the drums .

Like the Roland TD-02KV, this kit has rubber pads . The pads are a bit smaller, namely 7.5″. The snare drum is also a rubber pad.

The DTX-402K module surprisingly doesn't have a display - so you'll have to make do with the lights on the module. This kit also does n't offer a Bluetooth function . This makes the module a bit more limited.

The kit is held together by a sturdy rack that meets the standard for which Yamaha is known: providing musical instruments of high quality and durability.

The Yamaha DTX-402K is currently available for around 435 euros.

Which one should you choose?

Your final choice will largely depend on what you find important in an electronic drum kit. However, based on the differences, we can recommend both kits for different types of drummers:

  • For a realistic playing experience : The Roland TD-02KV is the best choice if you value realistic sounds. The mesh head snare is also a big plus for this kit. Mesh heads absorb the hits better and feel much more like a real snare drum.
  • For learning to play drums and practicing : Thanks to the recording function and more programs that help with coaching, the Yamaha DTX-402K is more suitable for drummers who want to work on their quality and drumming skills.

Whichever of the two you choose, you will certainly not compromise on quality. Both kits are made of sturdy material and will not wear out quickly.

We hope this comparison has helped you further. Good luck choosing!
