Millenium MPS-1000 review

The Millenium MPS-1000, is one of the few electronic drum kits under €1000 that actually looks like an acoustic drum kit. For this price, aside from the Fame DD-1000 MS, cannot find an alternative.

The kit features wooden shells, large cymbals and a full 20” kick drum, making the playing experience much closer to acoustic drumming.

The MPS-1000 features mesh heads on all drums and comes with a 13" snare, 10", 12" and 14" toms and a full set of cymbals: a 13" hi-hat, two 15" crashes and an 18" ride. All cymbals are 360 degrees playable. This makes playing the cymbals feel more natural and more like playing an acoustic drum kit.

The module is more comprehensive than Roland's: 820 sounds, 40 preset kits, and 40 user kits. It also features integrated Bluetooth and physical faders for quickly adjusting pad volumes.

The MPS-1000 comes in three designs (Grey Line, Pearl White, and Natural), making the kit attractive to drummers looking for a drum set that also stands out visually.

At the time of writing the kit costs 999 euros.

Roland TD-07DMK

Roland TD-07DMK

The Roland TD-07DMK is one of the most popular electronic drum sets for both beginners and advanced players. The Roland brand is known for quality and durability. When you buy a Roland drum set, you know quality is guaranteed.

The TD-07DMK features full mesh heads on both the snare and toms. The snare is 10" long, and the toms are Roland's renowned 8" PDX-6 pads. The CY-5 cymbals are 10" long and mute when gripped. While smaller than those on the MPS-1000, they are of higher quality and more durable.

What really stands out is the kickstand: it's attached to one of the rack's legs. That might sound unstable, but in practice, it actually remains very stable.

The TD-07 module is simple and does what it's supposed to. You get 143 sounds, 25 preset kits, and 25 user kits. The Bluetooth functionality is convenient and eliminates the need to connect your smartphone with a cable.

The kit takes up relatively little space: approx. 120 × 80 cm. The price is around 750 euros.

Which one should you buy?

It's difficult to say which of the two kits is "better." It depends on your situation:

Do you value a beautiful design, an extra crash cymbal and a more extensive module? Then the Millenium MPS-1000, the best choice.

Do you prioritize quality and reliability above all else, and don't need the kit to look acoustic? Then choose the Roland TD-07DMK.
